Maureen FitzSimons, better known as Maureen O'Hara in America, was an exceptional child. It was an innate quality for a woman who was of Irish descent, who was nurtured in her early days by talented family members as well as parents. Maureen entered the sanctity of family on the 17th of August 1920 in Ranelagh (a suburb of Dublin), Ireland. Marguerita Lilburn fitzSimons' mother was an contralto. Charles FitzSimons managed a Dublin-based business and owned a share in "The Shamrock Rovers," a renowned Irish soccer squad. Maureen was the third of six FitzSimons children. Peggy, Florrie, Charles B. Fitzsimons, Margot Fitzsimons and James O'Hara completed this beautiful family. Maureen loved playing rough sports when she was a kid and was very good at them. Her passion was coupled with a natural talent for performance. Her winning of almost all the Feis prizes for her own country's drama and theatre performances is a testimony to this. When she was fourteen, she was admitted to the Abbey Theater, where her ambition was to study operatic singing and classical theater.
